Confessions of a National Infertility Awareness Week “Hater”

By Tracey Minella

April 27th, 2015 at 8:12 am

I hate infertility. I hate that people are so clueless… and their words and actions are so hurtful …that we have to raise their awareness of our pain and educate them about this disease. And I hate that NIAW is just a week long.

Then, in many ways, life just goes back “normal”. To the unacceptable normal. Starting now.

Sure, last week we certainly raised awareness in the community. We hosted a series of events including a seminar about the donor egg program and a fun fertile yoga class. We ended the week with Alternative Medicine and Holistic Approaches to Fertility Enhancement which included demos of fertility-focused acupuncture and Reiki, along with massage therapy, meditation and stress reduction techniques.

We bonded with patients from our own practice, as well as those from other practices, and they bonded with each other. We welcomed prospective patients, their parents and friends, and interested strangers. We fed them fertility-friendly trail mix, donned them with NIAW silicone bracelets, and sent them home with swag bags of fun and useful items and coupons from the participating service providers. We empowered them with therapies and activities they can use to take back some control over their fertility. They were thankful and such a pleasure to get to know. In short, we did some good. As did other infertility practices and organizations around the country.

But, now NIAW is over. And it’s kind of quiet.

How do we keep the momentum of NIAW going? How do we make sure the topic of infertility doesn’t get swept under the rug until next April?

One way is to move on swiftly and loudly to the next thing that keeps infertility in the news. Maybe that means joining thousands of infertility advocates by going to Washington D.C. for Advocacy Day on May 14, 2015. Or participating in Walks of Hope to raise infertility awareness. [For more info contact at RESOLVE http://www.resolve.org/ ]. Or seeking out charitable organizations that award grants to infertile folks, like the Tinina Q. Cade Foundation, the BabyQuest Foundation, and others, some of which have grant application deadlines approaching soon.

As for Long Island IVF, we’re doing our part to keep infertility awareness front of mind…and donating a free IVF cycle as a door prize to one lucky winner…through a fun night at the Great South Bay Brewery on June 4, 2015.

Along with the Cade Foundation, Long Island IVF is happy to sponsor its “Brew for the Family” event, which includes a night of food, music, craft beer-sampling, brewery tours, souvenir glasses, a silent auction and more…plus a chance (or 2 chances for VIP ticket holders) to win the free IVF cycle door prize. Regular tickets cost $55, date night tickets for two cost $100, and VIP tickets cost $90. The free IVF cycle door prize is transferable in accordance with the contest rules, so bring your generous fertile friends and family down to increase your chances to win.

Let’s keep the conversations about infertility going…

Long Island IVF Announces Brew for the Family Event!

By Tracey Minella

April 10th, 2015 at 5:51 pm

Would winning a free IVF cycle make a difference in your life or the life of someone you know?

Has the stress of infertility and the depression that often comes with it caused you and your partner to withdraw from social situations? Are you slipping away from your friends and family because you just don’t feel like going out? Are date nights few and far between?

Well, we’re going to change that. At least for one special night in June.

Long Island IVF has again partnered with the Cade Foundation’s  to bring you another first of its kind event….Brew for the Family …and it’s coming this summer on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 7:30-10:00 pm at the Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, N.Y.

Each attendee will have a chance to win a great door prize: A FREE IVF CYCLE donated by Long Island IVF*.

Let me repeat that. Every attendee has a chance to win that free IVF cycle door prize (and VIP ticket holders will have two chances!). So gather all your friends and family…you know, all those folks who love you and have been saying how they wish they could help you in some way…and come out for a fun night at the brewery. If they win the free IVF cycle prize, they can transfer it to YOU!

In addition to giving one lucky winner the chance to have a baby, we’re out to have a fun night at one of Long Island’s premier microbreweries and spread the message the infertility can be overcome!  All attendees will enjoy beer sampling, a brewery tour, a souvenir glass, tons of great food, music, and a silent auction. In addition to all that, VIP ticket holders will also enjoy additional beer samplings, a private guided brewery tour with a master brewer, access to the VIP lounge, and a second ticket for the IVF cycle door prize.

The three (3) different ticket options are as follows:

Regular Tickets $55.00

Ticket includes entrance to the event, 6 beer tastings, private tour and a single entry into the drawing for the free IVF cycle door prize.

Date Night Package  $100.00  Ticket includes entrance for two into the event, 6 beer tastings each, brewery tour, and TWO entries into the drawing for a free IVF cycle door prize.

VIP Ticket  $90.00   Ticket includes entrance for one into the event, sampling of 9 craft beers, private guided brewery tour by a master brewer, commemorative souvenir glass, access to the VIP lounge, a beer themed gift bag, and TWO entries into the drawing for a free IVF cycle door prize.

Last year, we brought you Dancing for the Family, which was a ton of fun. Now we’re changing it up and going for the suds! So raise a glass (or up to six) and forget infertility for the night. Non-alcoholic options available, too, of course!

Remember: The coveted door prize is even transferable once*, so encourage your generous friends and family… who may not personally need the Free IVF cycle… to join you at this special event to help increase your odds of winning.

Why not make it a party! Share this event with your friends and bring your own crowd! Who wouldn’t like a night at the brewery?!

While we wish every attendee could win the free IVF cycle, and there’s bound to be disappointment among those who don’t win it, we hope you’ll leave with an overall feeling of satisfaction for being part of this ground-breaking event, since all proceeds raised will enable the Tinina Q. Cade Foundation to offer education-based programming and Family-Building grants to help people overcome infertility. All attendees are strongly encouraged to learn more about the great work the Cade Foundation does and to apply for one of their Family Building Grants for up to $10,000 in financial assistance to pursue fertility treatment or adoption. Visit their website at www.cadefoundation.org. Oftentimes, there are more grants to give away than people who apply for assistance, so be sure to check it out. The application process is easy.

To purchase tickets and learn more about this event please visit: www.librewforthefamily.eventbrite.com.

A portion of each ticket may be tax deductible. See details on the Eventbrite link. Don’t delay. Tickets are first-come, first-served. Click the link and reserve your spot today! Go on. Click. Now.

Someone will win that free IVF cycle*.

Be a Hero: Win a Free IVF Cycle for Someone You Love

By Tracey Minella

August 21st, 2014 at 7:23 am

Everyone knows someone who is suffering from infertility. And you wish you could do something to help.

Now you can.

Some infertile people suffer in silence and unnecessary shame. Others are open about the devastation of wanting a baby but not being able to have one without medical intervention. And sadly, not being able to afford costly medical treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF) is the number one reason some people will never become parents.

Who do you know that is suffering? Is it you? Your best friend? A sibling or co-worker? Maybe your own grown child or grandchild? What about that wonderful, child-loving person…that favorite “aunt” to everyone else’s kids… who would make the perfect mom but, oddly, hasn’t had a child of her own yet?

These people need you. Now.

It is time for a random act of kindness. Now.

Here is how you can be a hero today. Buy a ticket to our Dancing for the Family event this Saturday August 23, 2014. Long Island IVF is donating a Free IVF cycle as a door prize at the event. The value of this prize is approximately $10,000 in monetary terms. But for a couple who needs to win it in order to build a family…it’s priceless. How to you put a value on a family?

The Free IVF cycle is TRANSFERABLE*. This is HUGE. It means you can win it for someone you love…or even someone you just like a lot. If you can use it yourself, you’ve likely dreamt of how it would feel to win it. But for those who don’t need it for themselves, just picture how overwhelmed your suffering friend or family member would be if you presented them with this opportunity to get pregnant? Can you even imagine that moment?

How often do we get a chance to make a real difference in someone’s world on a large scale? Like an entrepreneur or charitable organization can? Wouldn’t we all love to have $10,000 or more to help someone in need? Well, here is that chance. It’s not cash, but it’s a potentially life-changing opportunity which may literally deliver a priceless gift.

$65.

An evening of music, professional dance lessons, food, drink, desserts, a silent auction…all in the breath-taking home dance studio of Dancing With the Stars® champions! So order your ticket today and we’ll be seeing you at Dance With Me Studios in Glen Head, NY on Saturday night from 6-9 pm. Tickets are limited. Get your friends together and come out for a good time and a good cause.

For details* about the event, including the Free IVF door prize, and to order tickets click here: http://bit.ly/1p8hDZ9

Someone needs you to take this chance. Will you?

If you’re coming already, that’s great! And if not…Why haven’t you ordered your tickets yet?!

“Dear Mom and Dad, We Need Your Help…”

By Tracey Minella

August 5th, 2014 at 4:07 pm

credit: nuchylee/freedigitalphotos.net

It isn’t easy to ask for help. Especially when it comes to financing infertility treatments. But the sad reality is that many insurance companies offer little if any coverage for advanced assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF). And while Long Island IVF, as well as a variety of not-for-profit organizations, participate in grant programs to help with these costs, the demand is always greater than the resources.

In an effort to give back to the community it’s been serving since it created Long Island’s first IVF baby 26 years ago, Long Island IVF is sponsoring an exciting infertility fundraiser event called “Dancing For The Family on August 23, 2014 from 6-9 pm and is donating a Free IVF cycle door prize that one attendee will win that night. The free IVF cycle is transferrable once, subject to certain restrictions, so friends and family can win it for someone they love. Be sure to read the sample letter below to help you invite your friends and family. Tickets are $65 and are limited. They should be purchased online in advance at http://bit.ly/1k9huoG.

The event will be held at the breathtaking Dance with Me Long Island Studios in Glen Head—home studio of Dancing With the Stars champion, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The evening will include music, group dance lessons with Dance With Me Long Island instructors (private lessons for V.I.P. ticket holders), hors d’oeuvres, drinks, desserts, a silent auction, and a chance to win the free IVF cycle door prize. Since there is no pressure to dance, wallflowers will have plenty of fun, too! The event is co-hosted by The Tinina Q. Cade Foundation® (“Cade Foundation”), a not-for-profit organization that provides education-focused programming and Family-Building Grants for couples suffering from infertility.

Many of you have family and friends who want to help you, but they don’t know how to help beyond lending a supportive ear. Financial help may be awkward to ask for or to receive. But this event offers the perfect opportunity to let them support you emotionally as well as potentially increasing your odds of winning the free IVF cycle door prize, valued at approximately $10,000. They can do all this, and have a fun evening themselves, for only $65. And by attending they are also supporting the infertility community at large.

Here’s a sample letter for you to send to your support system, inviting them to support you and to attend the “Dancing for the Family” event (feel free to tweak it as needed):

Dear Mom and Dad/Sister/Best Friend, etc.:

As you know, we’ve been struggling with infertility. We know you love us and wish there was something you could do to help. The medical treatment we need to start a family is not covered by insurance and the cost has kept us from moving forward at his point. A single cycle of in vitro fertilization (“IVF”) costs about $10,000.—an amount too high for us to ask anyone to help finance.

But there is exciting news.

There is an opportunity for us to win a free IVF cycle at an infertility fundraiser on August 23, 2014 sponsored by [our fertility doctors] Long Island IVF. One attendee will win this free IVF cycle and it is transferable once (subject to certain restrictions), so the more people we have with us who are willing to transfer the prize, the greater our chances of winning it.

Would you please consider purchasing a $65 ticket and attending the event on August 23, 2014? It’s from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm at Dance with Me Long Island Studios in Glen Head, New York– the breathtaking home dance studio of Dancing With the Stars® champion, Maksim Chmerkovskiy!

We would love to have a break from the stress of infertility surrounded by friends and family at an evening of music, group dance lessons with Dance With Me Long Island instructors (private lessons for $100 V.I.P. ticket holders), hors d’oeuvres, drinks, desserts, and a silent auction. While no one knows who will win the free IVF cycle door prize or the silent auction prizes, we will be raising infertility awareness and important funds for grant and educational programs and having a fun night together in any event. No pressure to dance–wallflowers are welcome, too!

Tickets are limited and should be purchased online in advance at http://bit.ly/1k9huoG. A portion of the ticket price is tax-deductible. The event is co-hosted by The Tinina Q. Cade Foundation® (“Cade Foundation”), a not-for-profit organization that provides education-focused programming and Family-Building Grants for couples suffering from infertility.

If you are able to attend, that would be great, but please don’t feel pressured to do so. Also, feel free to invite anyone else you know who is suffering from infertility or who might enjoy feeling like they’re on Dancing With The Stars for an evening.

And thanks for always being supportive as we continue our family-building journey.

Love,

Us

Long Island IVF’s Fertility Grants Guide

By Tracey Minella

July 9th, 2014 at 9:00 am

Financing…or lack thereof…is the number one obstacle to family-building for the majority of those suffering from infertility. Most insurance companies cover little (if any) of the costs of infertility treatment, especially advanced assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF). Even the medications for such treatment can be expensive.

Long Island IVF makes infertility treatments more affordable for patients through maximizing insurance benefit coverage as well as by offering specialized programs, such as our IVF Grant Program, Single Embryo Transfer Program, IVF Financial Share Program or Fertility Preservation Programs. For more information on these programs, see: http://www.longislandivf.com/payment_options.cfm  We also provide each patient with a personal financial counselor to help navigate the available options.

In addition to all the internal financial grant and related assistance offerings, we’d like to share other external grant funding sources which may be available to patients to assist with their infertility treatments. These organizations include:

The Cade Foundation & Long Island IVF

Long Island IVF actively supports the Tinina Q. Cade Foundation as our practice’s philanthropy. Next month, Long Island IVF will host a unique fund-raising event for the Cade Foundation on August 23rd at the Dance With Me Studio in Glen Head, Long Island, home of the Chmerkowsky Brothers and Tony Dovolani from Dancing With the Stars.

The Dancing for the Family event costs only $65 per ticket for a night of dance lessons, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, desserts, a silent auction and a chance to win a fabulous door prize: A Free IVF cycle donated by Long Island IVF!

Tickets are limited and can be purchased here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/long-island-dancing-for-the-family-hosted-by-long-island-ivf-tickets-10690187639 The Free IVF cycle is transferrable once (subject to certain restrictions) so here’s a real chance for your fertile friends and family…who wish they could help you… to come out for a fun night and maybe they’ll win the prize for you!

The Cade Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness of infertility and serve the needs of couples struggling with infertility by providing educational resources and financial assistance for helping them grow their families. Each year, the Cade Foundation provides grants of up to $10,000 to infertile families to assist them with the cost of infertility treatment or domestic adoption.

Long Island IVF “Dancing for the Family” Fundraiser with Free IVF Cycle Door Prize

By Tracey Minella

June 25th, 2014 at 5:48 pm

Remember date nights?

Infertility often wreaks havoc on a couple’s social life. Couples who were the life of the party before their diagnosis may start to withdraw from social situations for several reasons including depression, apathy, and financial restraint. If the journey is long, the couple can become virtual hermits.

Sound like you?

Well, we have a very special Saturday night planned with your name on it! Long Island IVF has partnered with the Tinina Q. Cade Foundation’s Dancing for the Family to bring you an event that is the first of its kind anywhere…and it’s coming this summer on August 23, 2014 at Dance with Me Studios Long Island, in Glen Head, N.Y.

Each attendee will have a chance to win a great door prize: A FREE IVF CYCLE donated by Long Island IVF*.

So whether you were party animals who loved to tear up the dance floor or just a couple of couch potatoes who watch Dancing With The Stars®, this event is for you. You will get to dance in the very studio where professional and DWTS dancers like Maksim and Val Chmerkovskiy and Tony Dovolani call home. You should be sashaying across the floor to order your tickets already, but if you need some persuading to fight that “hermit habit” just picture this…

The big night arrives. It’s date night. At least one of you is excited enough to have made these plans. You’ll get dressed up a bit, maybe for the first time in a while. Your eyes meet. The old spark ignites between you and any apprehension melts away. You’re on your way. The studio is abuzz with excitement. People are eating and enjoying the silent auction. You’ve got a drink in hand. Moods are relaxed, the music starts, and the professional dance instruction fun begins.

By the evening’s end, you’ve rediscovered each other or maybe met some new friends who share your challenge. Perhaps you even cut the rug with one of the LIIVF doctors. You’ve danced and laughed and possibly even won a silent auction prize. Or the free IVF cycle door prize. Someone will win it. And since attendance is limited, the odds are increased.

The coveted door prize is even transferable once*, so encourage your generous friends and family… who may not personally need the Free IVF cycle… to join you at this special event to help increase your odds of winning.

Go on, make it a party. Share this event with your friends and bring your own crowd!

You’ll leave feeling like a champion for being part of this ground-breaking event since all proceeds raised will enable the Tinina Q. Cade Foundation to offer education-based programming and Family-Building grants to help people overcome infertility.

Tickets are available at www.LIDanceForTheFamily.eventbrite.com. Admission tickets are only $65 (or $100 for V.I.P tickets). A portion of each ticket is tax deductible. See details on the eventbrite link. Don’t delay. Tickets are first-come, first-served. Click the link and reserve your spot today! Go on. Click. Now.
