Long Island IVF Celebrates National Doctor’s Day

By Tracey Minella

March 30th, 2017 at 8:48 pm

L-R Drs. Brenner, Pena, Kenigsberg, Kreiner

You’ve trusted them with more than just your medical care. You’ve trusted them with your future…with your dreams of having a family. They are your Long Island IVF doctors. And we celebrate them today on National Doctor’s Day. (Camera shy today are Drs. Zinger and Droesch!)

For almost 30 years, the doctors at Long Island IVF have been helping Long Islanders become parents through advanced assisted reproductive technologies like IUI and IVF. We were responsible for such milestones as Long Island’s first IVF baby, its first Donor Egg baby, and its first IVF baby from a cryopreserved embryo. We are often the first practice in the region to offer the newest technologies and treatments in family-building.

Whether you came to one of our doctors through a trusted recommendation from family or friends whose families we helped to build, or you found us through conducting your own research into Long Island IVF’s history, we are so glad you chose our doctors.

There is a beautiful transition that often happens between a patient and her doctor. What starts out as a queasy mix of hopefulness and fear at an initial consultation—where you lay your story and feelings there at the feet of an expert who is still a stranger—often develops into a partnership in care that leads to that sought-after pregnancy. Not always unfortunately, and that is devastating to both the patient and the doctor. The journey may be short for some, longer for others, and stressful for all.

Your doctors pour over your case and feel enormous responsibility to help you succeed because they know how much is on the line. They don’t really exhale until you are sent back to your ObGyn for pregnancy care with a healthy sono photo in your hand.

And nothing makes them happier than when they get to meet your little ones at the annual LIIVF family reunion– or any time you want to drop in for a visit.

If there is a special doctor at Long Island IVF that has touched your life, feel free to give a “shout-out” right here in the comments to let them know how much they mean to you. It will make their day! (Hey Dr. Kreiner, if you’re listening—thanks for the two miracles!)

Now it’s YOUR turn…

Shout out begins now!

Long Island IVF’s Dr. Zinger is now in Lake Success and Brooklyn

By Tracey Minella

February 22nd, 2017 at 12:27 pm

We are happy to announce that Dr. Michael Zinger has joined Dr. Daniel Kenigsberg and Dr. Steven Brenner in seeing patients at Long Island IVF’s Lake Success location. Dr. Zinger will continue seeing patients in our Brooklyn office as well.

Dr. Zinger has been with Long Island IVF since 2008 as the reproductive endocrinologist who anchors our Brooklyn facility. He enjoys a loyal patient following and has just branched out a bit eastward to reach even more patients closer to where they live and work.

Uniquely-qualified with dual board certifications in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as well as OBGYN, Dr. Zinger appreciates the difficulty frustrated patients face when choosing an infertility specialist as well as the trust it takes for OBGYNs to refer patients out to him for advanced infertility care.

Consistently ranked by his peers as a “SuperDoc” in the New York Times and selected for the Patient’s Choice and Compassionate Doctor awards on vitals.com, Dr. Zinger makes quality, compassionate patient care a priority. He’s one reason the public voted Long Island IVF the “Best In Vitro Fertility Practice” for three straight years– 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Prior to joining Long Island IVF, Dr. Zinger spent six years heading the IVF program at Edwards Hospital. A prolific author of medical textbook chapters and medical journal articles, as well as a presenter at numerous national and international medical meetings, Dr. Zinger was also the recipient of The Endocrine Society’s prestigious Senior Fellow’s Award for outstanding research. His complete bio can be viewed here.

If you are looking for a trustworthy and experienced infertility specialist in the Lake Success or Brooklyn area, you can book an appointment with Dr. Zinger by calling (718) 375-6400 for Brooklyn or (516) 358-6363 for Lake Success.

Long Island IVF has multiple offices throughout Long Island as well as in Brooklyn for your convenience.

By Tracey Minella

January 10th, 2016 at 8:32 am

We are beyond excited to announce that… for the second consecutive year… Long Island IVF was voted the Best In-Vitro Fertility Practice in the Best Of Long Island 2016 contest.

And it’s all because of YOU!

To be the best infertility practice on Long Island means that you’ve trusted us not only with your care…but with your biggest dream. And that we came through for you in a way that compelled you to recommend us to others by voting.

The doctors, nurses, embryologists, and the rest of the Long Island IVF staff are so humbled by this honor and so thankful to each and every one of you who took the time to cast a vote in our favor. From the moms juggling LIIVF toddlers… to the dads coaching LIIVF teens…to the parents sending LIIVF adults off to college or down the aisles… to the LIIVF patients still on their journeys to parenthood who are confident in the care they’re receiving…we thank you all.

We love what we get to do every day…build families. And that’s all the thanks we really need. However, when you recommend us to your friends and families and endorse us to the public by voting for us, you enable us to help even more infertile couples fulfill their dreams of building a family. And we’re thankful for that as well.

As we’ve done for almost 28 years, we offer patients our unique blend of cutting-edge medical technologies and holistic, personal support… wrapped in the comfort of a private, non-hospital setting. Because we believe all people have the right to pursue their dream of parenthood, we have long-offered family-building treatments specially designed for the LGBT community’s unique needs. We also offer grants and other programs to help make treatment options more affordable. https://www.longislandivf.com/ivf_grants.cfm

Thanks again for your vote and for trusting us with your care.

Long Island IVF Announces Office Hours in the Hamptons

By Tracey Minella

July 22nd, 2015 at 9:41 am

Forget the beautiful beaches and trendy shops. There’s a bigger draw to the Hamptons. And it will last year ‘round.

Long Island IVF is happy to announce that two of its reproductive endocrinologists, Dr. Daniel Kenigsberg and Dr. Kathleen Droesch are seeing patients in the Hamptons. Until now, infertile couples in Eastern Suffolk County had to travel exceptionally long distances to reach us for fertility treatment. Now, those in the Hamptons area… for the summer and year round… will have the convenience of expert care closer to home!

For more information on the days and hours of doctor availability and to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kenigsberg or Dr. Droesch in the Hamptons, please contact our Stony Brook office at (631) 331-7575.

Long Island IVF Family Reunion 2014 Memories

By Tracey Minella

November 11th, 2014 at 4:26 pm

Long Island IVF just celebrated its 26th Annual Family Reunion event. With schools closed and many people off from work, we were blessed with an exceptionally high turn-out of babies and new parents. And we couldn’t have been happier!

The family reunion is the highlight event of our year because it’s when the doctors and staff get to meet the newest crop of little miracles. The last time some of these babies were held, they were only a few cells in size! It’s such an emotional experience for doctors and patients alike. This year, 99 of the newest babies came out. Maybe we’re biased, but they were all gorgeous! And their parents were bursting with smiles and pride…happiness and gratitude replacing the worry and stress of the past. A photographer was capturing the little dickens in a fall-themed pumpkin patch.

It was remarked that if we’d had all of the babies we helped to create for the past 26 years, we’d have filled the Nassau Coliseum!

We were also so lucky to have the event covered by several media outlets, including CBS, Fox, FIOS, and News 12. Not only did that coverage expose our practice’s success to potential patients who may need our family-building services, but it enabled all of our patients, past and present, to share in the reunion experience. You could feel the happiness in the air.

Please check out some of the videos of that news coverage on our Facebook page or at these links and check back often as we will update them as they are available:

Long Island IVF and its Doctors Nominated in Best of Long Island 2015

By Tracey Minella

September 16th, 2014 at 6:03 pm

Long Island IVF is so pleased to announce that it has been nominated “Best In Vitro Fertility Practice” in the Long Island Press “Best of Long Island (“BOLI”) 2015” Contest. (This is a new category. Prior to this year, our doctors had to be nominated in the OBGYN category.)

Four of our doctors were also on the nominee list: Daniel Kenigsberg MD, David Kreiner MD, Steven Brenner MD, and Joseph Pena MD. (You’ll find Dr. Brenner in the OBGYN category).

Thank you to all of our patients and their families for nominating us in this public opinion-based contest. Word-of-mouth recommendations have always been the cornerstone of our practice and we appreciate you taking a moment to cast a vote in our favor. It really is an honor to be nominated. Now that nominations are done, voting for a winner begins shortly.

The voting period to determine the one ultimate winner in each category begins on October 1 and continues until December 15 and voters may cast one vote per day. For those interested in voting for any of the many businesses or service providers who have been nominated, you may do so at: http://bestof.longislandpress.com/voting

Again, thanks for making our day by nominating us “Best In Vitro Fertility Practice”. We love what we do.

And that begs the question: How did YOU come to hear of Long Island IVF?

Was it a recommendation from friends or family? Your gynecologist? A print or radio ad? The internet? Research into our success rates and innovative programs? Something else? What brought you into the practice? (Curious minds want to know.)

Long Island IVF Doctors Dominate Long Island Top Doctors Guide

By Tracey Minella

July 31st, 2014 at 9:32 am

L-R Drs. Brenner, Pena, Kenigsberg & Kreiner

Long Island IVF is proud to announce that several of its doctors have been included in the Top Doctors on Long Island Guide selected from the 2014 Castle Connolly Guide by Newsday.

Daniel Kenigsberg, MD and Steven Brenner, MD, who both consistently appear on the prestigious listing as Reproductive Endocrinologists were honored again. In addition, their partner Joseph Pena, MD joined them on the Top Docs list this year.  Since doctors do not and cannot pay to appear on this list, but rather are nominated and selected through a peer recognition process, being named to the Top Docs list is an honor that never gets old for our physicians.

In addition, Long Island IVF partner and reproductive endocrinologist David Kreiner, MD and Long Island IVF’s on-staff expert infertility urologist, Yefim Sheynkin, MD (who is also director of the Male Infertility and Microsurgery Program at Stony Brook Medicine) were interviewed for and featured in the article “Treating Infertility: Millions of couples are being helped” by Greg Burt, on page 60 of the Newsday Top Docs Guide which came out this week.

Long Island IVF is proud of all of its physicians, embryologists, nurses and staff for their commitment to its patients and is grateful for the recognition given by Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors Guide honors. But the best reward for a job well done is the satisfaction we get from building families every day and seeing the very real impact our work has on the lives and happiness of our patients.

In an effort to give back to the Long Island community, Long Island IVF has donated a free IVF cycle as a door prize for its very special infertility fundraiser on August 23, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 pm. Long Island IVF and The Tininia Q. Cade Foundation host “Dancing for the Family” at the beautiful Dance With Me Long Island® studio that is home to Dancing with the Stars® champion dancers, in Glen Head, NY. Attendees will enjoy a professional dance lesson, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a silent auction for only $65 (or $100 VIP). One lucky attendee will win a Free IVF cycle, valued at approximately $10,000. The cycle is transferable once (subject to certain restrictions), so bring all your friends and family to increase your odds of winning. Tickets are limited so buy yours today. For details and to purchase your tickets to the evening’s dance event, click here: http://bit.ly/1p8hDZ9

Long Island IVF Designated an Aetna Institute of Excellence™ Infertility Clinic

By Tracey Minella

July 17th, 2014 at 3:17 pm

Long Island IVF is proud to announce it has been recognized as an Aetna Institute of Excellence™ Infertility Clinic for Assisted Reproductive Technology services.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for their unique expertise in consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

Long Island IVF has been selected as one such specialized, unique, and safe facility.

“From the day LIIVF first opened its doors 26 years ago, we’ve been committed to providing the safest, most advanced medical care to the infertility community on Long Island”, said Dr. Daniel Kenigsberg, Reproductive Endocrinologist and co-founding partner of Long Island IVF. “So to be recognized by Aetna as an ‘Institute of Excellence’ is not only an honor, but a validation of that commitment.”

Dr. David Kreiner, Reproductive Endocrinologist and co-founding partner of Long Island IVF, agrees. “Infertility is very stressful and the pressure on infertile couples to choose the right fertility practice can be overwhelming,” adds Dr. Kreiner. “The ‘Institute of Excellence’ distinction helps direct infertile patients to the doctors who have been recognized as leaders in the field of infertility and assisted reproductive technology.”

While recommendations from successful patients have always been a great source of new patient referrals, many couples who are trying to conceive may not know someone who has used assisted reproductive technology to get pregnant, or they may not be ready to openly admit that they’re suffering from infertility. So, the Aetna Institute of Excellence™ Infertility Clinic designation is a great resource to direct patients to quality care.

Long Island IVF Patient Satisfaction Survey and Extended Hours Program

By Tracey Minella

September 17th, 2013 at 7:57 am

While Long Island IVF routinely conducts patient satisfaction surveys, earlier this year we undertook a major, multifaceted patient satisfaction review process. As this is the 25th anniversary of our bringing Long Island its first IVF baby, we felt it was the perfect time to reach out and confirm that we were still giving today’s infertile patients everything they want and need in their journey to parenthood.

This review included surveying current patients, former patients, and prospective patients who’d expressed an interest in our practice. It included in-office surveys, online surveys, mailings, and phone calls. It was structured to encourage both positive and negative feedback so we could really get an honest look at what we’re doing right and where we might do even better.

We weren’t just looking for a sugar-coated, love-fest from the many patients who we’d fast-tracked to parenthood. No, we wanted to hear from everyone: those whose success took longer, those still trying, those who came to us from other practices, and those who connected with us but didn’t follow through. This was a huge undertaking.

The results were well worth the effort. And we learned a lot.

Today’s patients are doing their homework. They are educated consumers who often come to Long Island IVF researching our success rates and comparing them to other clinics, nationally and regionally. We strongly encourage patients to do this and we take pride in our success rates, which far exceed the national averages. This information is available on our website http://www.longislandivf.com/  and is also explained simply in this recent blog: http://bit.ly/199We8L

Today’s patients appreciate a blend of high-tech and high-touch. They want the benefits of a stellar clinical program with great success rates, but they want the human touch. They want the best of a shiny state-of-the-art facility, but they want their hands held. They want the cutting edge technology of traditional IVF but they often want to blend it with other complimentary offerings like our unique Mind-Body program’s stress-reduction techniques, counseling, and acupuncture. http://www.longislandivf.com/mind_body.cfm. Our warm, private, non-institutional environment offers all these things.

But today’s patients have a real dilemma. The extended economic downturn has driven many infertile patients to work longer hours, sometimes at more than one job, in order to afford their treatments. Sadly, the days of 9-5 are history.

Even though we’ve long offered early morning hours for patients so they could get to work on time, many patients need or want to come to the office in the evening when possible. This request frequently came up in our survey.

We want you to know…we listened.

Long Island IVF is pleased to announce the following extended evening office hours and locations. Doctors will see patients until 8:00 pm, with the last appointment starting at 7:00 pm.

Monday: Dr. Brenner will see patients in Lake Success.

Monday: Dr. Zinger will see patients in Brooklyn.

Tuesday: Dr. Kenigsberg will see patients in Melville.

Wednesday: Dr. Kreiner will see patients in Melville.

Thursday: Dr. Zinger will see patients in Brooklyn.

Patient satisfaction has always been a priority at Long Island IVF and it’s something we will continue to assess frequently as we enter our next 25 years of family-building. Thanks to all those who took the time to share your thoughts and ideas. And thanks for continuing to refer us to your friends and family.

We’re always looking for your input and suggestions. Feel free to weigh in on anything right here.

How Long Island IVF Was Born: A Historical Retrospective Journey of 25 Years

By David Kreiner MD

April 8th, 2013 at 6:39 pm

Today, a woman I delivered into this world in 1982 came to me to help her conceive.   At the time, I was a resident in obstetrics and gynecology, a four year program that preceded my fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI).

Seeing her triggered memories from then and how it happened that I am here today at Long Island IVF.  As an ob-gyn resident, my goal was to become an IVF expert and was the reason I came to Stony Brook to train with Dr. Zev Rosenwaks.  However, in 1983, he left to become the Director of IVF at the Jones Institute in Norfolk, Virginia, the American clinic that pioneered IVF.  Stony Brook then was without an REI specialist.

I attempted to learn as much I could through reading the latest studies which were directed primarily by Dr. Gary Hodgen at the National Institute of Health.  Of particular interest to me was a study performed 30 years ago that won the National Fertility Prize on what was termed, “Ovarian Stimulation in Medical Hypophysectomized Primates”.  The author of the study, a protégé of Gary Hodgen, was a young reproductive fellow, Dr. Daniel Kenigsberg.

Isn’t it ironic that as one expert left Stony Brook, the future of IVF on Long Island was formed by replacing Zev Rosenwaks with Daniel Kenigsberg?

Kenigsberg’s historic study became the foundation on which modern day IVF is practiced today.  In fact, Dr. Kenigsberg was the first to demonstrate the ability to stimulate ovaries using exogenous FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) without the pituitary stimulation of both FSH and Luteinizing Hormone (LH).  Today infertility specialists throughout the world characteristically employ “the Kenigsberg switch” to turn off the pituitary when stimulating ovaries in preparation for IVF.

In 1985, motivated by the research success of Dr. Kenigsberg, my new mentor, I submitted research of my own on endometriosis that became a finalist for the National Fertility Prize.  Three years later, after my IVF training at the Jones Institute, I returned to start Long Island IVF with Dr. Kenigsberg where together we brought Long Island its first IVF baby, first baby from a cryopreserved embryo, and first donor egg baby.

Today… along with all of the Long Island IVF physicians, embryologists, nurses, and staff… we both look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary of successfully assisting over 5000 Long Island couples with their family building needs.

* * * * * * * * ** * * * ** *

If we’ve been a part of your family-building journey, we thank you for your faith and trust in us and would love to hear and see what you and your little miracles have been up to.
